The Disk Usage feature in cPanel provides a detailed overview of the storage space used by your hosting account. It displays disk usage for directories, email accounts, databases, and hidden system folders, helping you identify which files or folders consume the most space.

Note: Disk Usage shows directory-level storage information, not individual file details. For file-level management, use File Manager.

Steps to View Disk Usage in cPanel

1. Log in to Your cPanel Account

Access your hosting cPanel using your username and password.

2. Open Disk Usage
  • Navigate to the FILES section.
  • Click on Disk Usage.

The Disk Usage interface will open and display your account storage summary.

Understanding the Disk Usage Viewer

Graphical Usage Overview

The bars in the graph represent disk usage relative to the largest directory, not based on a fixed scale.

This section helps you quickly identify which folders are consuming the most storage space in your hosting account.

Detailed Directory Usage

The Disk Usage page displays:

  • Home directory usage
  • Hidden system directories
  • Mail storage
  • Website files
  • Backup files
  • Logs and cache folders

You can easily identify storage-heavy directories for cleanup or optimization.

Scroll Down Expand Subdirectories for More Details

  • Expand subdirectories
  • View folder sizes in MB and bytes
  • Sort directories by :
    • Name
    • Disk Usage

This makes it easier to locate large folders and unnecessary files.

  • Files may occupy slightly more disk space than their actual file size due to filesystem storage allocation.

Example: A 300-byte file may use 4 KB of actual disk space.

  • Disk Usage calculates space based on the contents inside directories, not the directory folder itself.
  • Empty directories usually consume very little disk space unless they contain multiple files or subfolders.
  • Disk Usage values may slightly differ from File Manager due to how storage is calculated by the server filesystem.
